Uses
Evista is a post-menopausal, prescription medication intended for women, as treatment or preventive measure against osteoporosis, a medical condition involving a decrease in bone mass density.

How to take Evista
Evista is available in 60mg tablets. Take the medication under careful observation of the directions of a physician. It may be taken with or without prior food intake, at approximately the same times each day. The doctor has the discretion of prescribing the dosage strengths and duration of treatment for the patient, and may require supplements of calcium or vitamin D if the patient does not receive enough amounts of these in the regular daily diet.

Side effects
Maintain the intake of the drug, and consult a doctor upon experiencing the following: leg cramps, rash, muscle soreness, hot flashes, weight gain, and sweating. Discontinue use and seek immediate medical attention with the following: allergic reactions, unexplained vaginal bleeding, sharp leg pain, vision changes, leg swelling, coughing up of blood, and sudden chest pains.

Drug precautions
Patients with a history of increased triglycerides, blood clots, cancer, or stroke, as well as liver disease should inform their doctor before intake of the drug. Such patients may be unable to take Evista, or may require an adjusted or regulated dose. Pregnant and breastfeeding women are advised to do likewise; the drug may have adverse effects on the unborn or nursing child. Users should refrain from sitting for long durations of time while traveling. Those planning on undergoing surgery should also inform their doctor.

Drug interactions
Medications which may interact with Evista include cholestyramine and colestipol, a blood thinner such as warfarin, and estrogen and progesterone products, including pills for birth control, or those for hormone replacement therapies.

Overdose
In instances of Evista overdose, the patient is advised to seek immediate medical help. Indications of an overdose of the drug are unknown; there is also no current specific antidote against Evista.

Missed dose
In case of a missed dose of Evista, take it as soon as possible, provided that the next scheduled dose is not due for some time. Otherwise, skip a missed dose and proceed with the next one, as indicated by the regular intake schedule.

Storage
Evista is stored in controlled room temperatures, between 20°C and 25°C; permissible temperatures between 15°C and 25°C are also possible.
